The Studio

After gathering years of experience in the fields of architecture, construction, and engineering, Stephen Verner established Stephen Verner Architects in 2006. The emphasis of this young firm is to provide a diverse clientele with a full scope of architectural services grounded in exceptional design, materials and detailing.

The firm's design process is based on a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach. Whether working with the Mural Arts Program in overseeing public art installations or on extensive renovations to a Center City rowhouse, a unique and interactive dialogue is established with each client.

Design solutions favor clean and simple spaces, fenestrations and detailing. A rich use and interplay of materials and daylighting is also a common theme. Context, be it a historic district or the physical environment, plays an integral role in every project. A strong emphasis is also placed on sustainable design with some projects seeking LEED certification.

Stephen's rich background has culminated in a design approach which is informed and finely tuned. Thoughtful, attentive to detail, and committed to realizing each client's unique vision, SVA strives to create meaningful architecture.

Stephen Verner holds a Masters of Architecture with a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the US Naval Academy. He worked for several years as a finish carpenter and then as an architectural metal designer/fabricator in the retail, residential and institutional markets. Shifting his focus to large scale high-rise, multi-family and high end residential projects, Stephen was an Associate at the award-winning firm of Cecil Baker & Associates.
